Why Valves & Wellheads Need Their Own Checks
A valve that passes a quick visual check can still leak through the seat, stick halfway open or carry the wrong pressure rating — and you only find out once it is installed and the system is pressurised.
Valves and wellhead equipment control pressure and flow, so a hidden fault can mean a leak, a failed commissioning test or an unplanned shutdown. Many of the risks cannot be seen from outside: a body casting with porosity, a seat that does not seal, a stem that binds, a pressure class or material that does not match the order. Each unit has to be checked against your purchase order, the referenced standard and its test records, and where the order requires it, its pressure and function tests witnessed. An on-site inspection does that at the factory, before the equipment is preserved, crated and shipped.
Every Equipment Type, Its Own Checklist
A gate valve, a ball valve and a wellhead assembly are built and fail in different ways. Our inspectors work to the checklist that matches what you are actually buying.
- Body and bonnet casting quality
- Face-to-face and end connection dimensions
- Seat, disc and stem condition
- Shell and seat test results
- Smooth operation across the full stroke
- Seat and seal condition
- Flange drilling and face finish
- Pressure class and material marking
- Material certificates and traceability
- Dimensions and connection interfaces
- Pressure test records or witnessing
- Marking, rating and nameplate data
- Correct model and rating for the valve
- Operation and position indication
- Mounting, fasteners and wiring
- Coating, marking and packing
What We Check
Every inspection is set up against your purchase order, the referenced standard and the approved datasheets and drawings. A typical valve and wellhead checklist covers:
-
Material verification certificates checked against heat numbers, the specified grade and the order
-
Dimensions face-to-face, end connections, flange drilling and overall dimensions against the datasheet
-
Body and casting condition porosity, cracks, sand holes and repair marks on bodies and bonnets
-
Pressure testing shell and seat tests witnessed or test records reviewed, where the order requires it
-
Operation smooth opening and closing over the full stroke, with actuator or gear function checked
-
Internals and trim seat, disc, ball, stem and seal condition where the design allows inspection
-
Marking and nameplate size, pressure class, material, serial number and standard on every unit
-
Coating, preservation and packing paint condition, port protectors, preservation and crating
Whether you need a one-off pre-shipment check or ongoing oversight across a valve package, we build the checklist around your purchase order and the standards it references.
Defects We Catch Before the Order Ships
These are the findings that most often turn into rejected equipment, failed commissioning tests or delays on site when nobody looks before shipment.
-
Material or heat number that does not match the certificate
-
Face-to-face or flange dimensions outside the datasheet
-
Porosity, cracks or sand holes in the body or bonnet casting
-
Seat leakage or a failed shell test
-
Stem or gland packing leakage
-
Stiff, incomplete or uneven operation over the stroke
-
Wrong actuator, gearbox or accessory for the valve
-
Missing or incorrect nameplate data and marking
-
Missing port protectors, damaged coating or inadequate crating
Which Inspection Stage Do You Need?
Material, casting and assembly problems are cheapest to fix before the equipment is tested and painted. Most buyers combine two or more of these across a production run.
